My dad accidentally shot a hole through the roof on Christmas out in the garage right next to me and my mom thought he shot himself on Christmas. 44 lever actions are not safe to keep one in the chamber

1986, during the Homecoming celebration that went on statewide, my dad took me to the local fairgrounds. Found a man peddling pocketknives. Dad let me buy one, my first pocketknife.

Every moment with my father is special for me. The war in Ukraine shows that we should spend much more time with ours parents and less on other things.

On my first whitetail hunt my dad gave me a Frosts Skinner. I was 14. After cleaning my first deer, I stuck the knife into a tree saying, “That’s that.” My dad responded, saying that was no way to treat a knife. In my embarrassment I snapped the tip pulling it out. That was 49 years ago. I have kept that knife and use it to this day. A constant reminder of my dads words. And responsible actions.

My father loves the outdoors. He would take me and my cousins out on hiking and camping trip back in the day. He enjoy taking photos of historic places. We would travel miles away just to visit those places. But most of all my father enjoys and loves to watch concerts of bands that were known during the 50’s – 70’s and he will take us with him even thou were not familiar with the band or their songs. Also he would teach on proper medical procedures since he is a Doctor and we are on medical schools as well. Right now my dad enjoys staying around the farm and taking care of his favourite plants and animals. I already have a daughter and she loves her grandpa so much that she would jump of joy everytime she sees my dad (her grandpa).

My dad is currently battling cancer. These last few months have been tough but it’s allowed me to reflect on a lot of good memories we had. Fishing has always been a good time with my dad. I remember the day he taught me the difference between the current and a bite in the river.

I miss my dad… One of my most special memories is when my son was born. I went out to get dad and he was the first grandparent to see my son. It is the only time I ever saw him cry.

The man ….
Not a day goes by where I’m not reflecting on something I’ve learnt or reflected on with you. I’m blessed to have you as a father and blessed to be your son. I hope you can see this and enter your own message that way I can see what you put about your dad. 😆 You told me how precious fatherhood is and now I get to try to be like you ! Love ya dad

My old man is too amazing. He brought us to the U.S. and worked hard to give us a comfortable life, not knowing a single word of English. Many times I wish I could’ve done more to help him out and I can only wish to be half the man he is.

My dad is amazing. He showed me that nothing can stop you from being old to young and he works so hard every day working on ladders and in the crazy vegas heat. He showed me that hard work will get you further then anything when we did house repair and when he needs my help with his work. I want to thank him for every moment. I dont get to talk to him much but I want to do something special for him. I’m always working night time (8pm to 4am) and I stay up until 10 am just to make sure he is ready for work and doing alright. I wish I could give him a gift to show him that me as a 22 year old can see what he has done to help me and say thank you for being there. He is the reason I carry knives every day and I want to be the reason that he can carry one too.

My dad taught me about the outdoors and especially the love of fishing. To this day I can’t go fishing without thinking of dad and all the great fishing trips him and I shared before he passed away.

My father has had a wonderful way of teaching since my birth. His father wasn’t a good guy or a good father, so he decided to learn as much as he could from his father’s failure. His chief improvement was that, instead of beating or otherwise punishing me when I broke something, he would sit me down and I would learn how to fix it. That includes social situations as well.
One day I had broken the wickerwork for one of our really nice old chairs. As usual, he sat me down too look at it. He took some dried wicker from the rafter and showed me how to weave it. As he did it, he stopped for a second and just went, “Huh.” For the first time, I saw tears in his eyes. I was scared! I thought I had broken it beyond repair.
Turns out, he realized that he had, well and truly, become a better man than his father. He hugged me close and cried for a bit and told me he loved me.
I will strive to be better even than him, but he will always be my role model. Love you, Dad.

My Dad used to show me knives as a little kid he used to be carry this big buck knife all the time that he used for everything. Never knew why he always used that knife for everything instead of using a proper tool for that specific job . Now that I’m older and love knives I completely understand why ..RIP Pops ..thanks for all the life lessons..love you

My dad passed when I was 14. He worked more than he should have, sometimes 2 jobs helping out his brother in the morning before going to his job. He always found time to take me fishing or to play catch and work on baseball techniques. I miss him everyday.

My dad passed away when I was almost 6 so I’ve missed out on fathers day most of my life. He drove a mac truck for a living and last year I got the bulldog (hood ornament) tattooed to honor him. Rip dad.

Growing up I was always fascinated with hunting and pocket knifes. I remember my dad teaching me how to sharpen a knife and the patience that took when I was a kid and just learning. I’m sure I wasn’t the best student. This year I got him a badlands vagabond and his reaction was priceless. He loved how sharp, light, and easy to open it was. Needless to say he loves showing it off to people any chance he gets.

My parents divorced when I was seven and my biological Dad was not part of my life, but my Mom met my step Dad when I was a teenager. We didn’t always see Eye to eye but my favorite memory was when he gave me his boyscout knife.I still have it to this day.It is a great hunting knife and it holds great sentimental value to me.I would never part with it.I still can’t believe they gave such a large fixed blade knife to kids.

Unfortunately my donor is a world class turd. My most memorable moments of him are him abandoning my mother, brother and I when I was barely two. He then shows up insisting on seeing us when child support caught up to him. Being beaten with a 2×4 for spilling a glass of his Mt dew, him making us inhale ammonia fumes because he thought it was funny, and him stealing from his dying sister. Yeah great guy. My fondest memory of him will be when he’s put in the ground. Couldn’t be soon enough.

Among many other things, my father taught me the importance and value of quality tools and how to use them – including pocket knives. He would always take the time to teach me how to do whatever he was working on and I have countless fond memories of working on projects with him.

My father passed away in 1994, one of my earliest recollections was him telling a story about him having a pocket knife as a boy and potentially getting in trouble for it. He always carried a pocket knife as long as I can remember as have I. That in part at least is why I have carried a pocket knife for most of my life, even when I had to have it approved due to where I worked to ensure it would not be designated as a weapon.

Recently been through a divorce that has led me to moving back in with my dad who has been there for me whenever i need him throughout my whole life. He was the person that encouraged my enjoyment of knives and bushcraft from i was a little kid and couldn’t have asked for a better father and now grandfather to my two kids!
